Lionsgate CEO: Media M&A Uncertainty Is
Imagine different TV and movie companies are like kids on a playground, and some want to trade toys or even join their playgroups.
This is called M&A.
The boss of Lionsgate, Jon Feltheimer, says all this trading and joining is making it hard for everyone to know what's happening.
It's like a big game of musical chairs, and it's making things confusing and disruptive.
His colleague, Kevin Beggs, agrees and says that when things are so uncertain, people tend to buy fewer toys.
He also mentioned that a recent big trade between Paramount and Skydance took a long time and put things on hold.
Companies like Comcast are also changing how they play.
While sometimes having fewer playmates means less interest, Kevin also pointed out that sometimes these big new groups can become really strong buyers with a big appetite for new games (content).
However, he also noted that unhealthy buyers aren't good for anyone.
Lionsgate itself recently split its movie-making part from its Starz channel, and everyone is wondering if they might join up with an even bigger group later.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer described ongoing media M&A as 'incredibly disruptive' to the industry.
The uncertainty surrounding potential mergers and acquisitions can negatively impact market activity.
Lionsgate Television Chairman Kevin Beggs noted that consolidation can present both opportunities and challenges for content suppliers.
Recent M&A activities mentioned include Paramount's acquisition of Skydance and potential bids for Warner Bros. Discovery.
Lionsgate Studios has recently separated from the Starz business.
