India's Solar Expansion: 24L Homes Install Rooftop Solar
India is making big steps in using solar energy.
The government has helped 23.9 lakh homes install solar panels on their roofs, creating 7 GW of clean energy.
They have spent Rs 13,464.6 crore to support this.
The goal is to have one crore homes with solar power, giving them up to 300 units of free electricity each month.
India's solar capacity has grown a lot, from just 3 GW in 2014 to 129.92 GW by October 2025.
The country is also a key player in global solar additions, contributing 46 GW between 2022 and 2024.
States like Odisha are also working hard to increase their renewable energy capacity, aiming to have 34% of their power from clean sources.
The government is speeding up the installation of solar systems for SC/ST and BC households, with targets to complete these projects by March 2025.
This push for solar energy is part of India's plan to reduce its carbon footprint and achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.
23.9 lakh households have installed rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar mission.
India added 24.28 GW of solar capacity in the current financial year, contributing to 31.25 GW of non-fossil capacity.
The government aims to provide up to 300 units of free electricity monthly to one crore households through the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
Rs 13,464.6 crore subsidy has been released, with a total outlay of Rs 75,021 crore for the scheme.
India's solar capacity has grown from 3 GW in 2014 to 129.92 GW by October 2025, with Odisha contributing 3.1 GW.
