Bankipur Bypoll: Kishor Criticizes Police, Supports Voter ID Checks
In Patna, India, people voted for a new local representative on August 2, 2024.
A man named Prashant Kishor, who runs a new party, said police had held many of his supporters before the vote.
He thinks this was to stop them from voting.
He also liked the idea that voters must show a special ID card to prove who they are.
The election had 25 candidates, and the main rivals were from his party, the RJD, and the BJP.
The results will be announced on August 3, 2024.
Prashant Kishor alleges police detained over 16 Jan Suraaj leaders before the Bankipur bypoll.
He claims the detentions were to keep leaders away from the election, not for any criminal case.
Kishor welcomes BJP’s push for strict EPIC ID verification to prevent bogus voting.
The bypoll features 25 candidates, with a triangular contest between Jan Suraaj, RJD, and BJP.
Voting took place on August 2, with results to be announced on August 3 under heavy security.
