IIIT Hyderabad Develops News Mapping Platform
The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) is building a special tool that turns news into maps.
This tool collects news from different newspapers, translates it into English and Hindi, and shows where different events are happening in Telangana.
The tool uses colors to show if the news is good (green), bad (red), or neutral (yellow).
It also helps people decide where to live by showing things like air quality, hospitals, and schools nearby.
The idea is to make it easier for both government officials and citizens to understand and use this information.
The project started because the Telangana government asked for it, and an intern named Vishal Joy helped create the part that shows how good an area is to live in.
IIIT-H developed a platform that maps news articles from multiple newspapers in Telangana.
The platform translates Telugu news into English and Hindi using BHASHINI models.
News articles are color-coded on a map based on sentiment: green for positive, red for negative, and yellow for neutral.
The platform includes a livability index that shows factors like air quality, water quality, and proximity to hospitals and schools.
The livability module was initially developed by an intern, Vishal Joy, to help citizens decide where to live based on various indicators.
