Gas Distributor Shares Rise as India Incentivizes PNG Connections

Gas Distributor Shares Rise as India Incentivizes PNG Connections

India wants more homes to use piped natural gas, or PNG, for cooking.

The government will give gas companies extra cheaper domestic gas when they add paying household PNG customers.

This is intended to make it more worthwhile for companies to build pipelines and activate unused connections.

The scheme is expected to start on September 1, 2026.

It will run in two phases, with each phase lasting six months.

The government says the time needed for companies to recover their investment could fall from nearly 10 years to about three years.

Gas company shares rose after the announcement because investors expected the plan to help these businesses.

India is trying to reduce its dependence on imported LPG, which is widely used by households today.
