US Envoy’s Kashmir Visit Reinforces India’s Position, Signals Pakistan

A senior US diplomat visited Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that the region is an important part of India.

This supports India’s long-standing position on Kashmir.

He also met Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting showed that the United States wants to engage with the region’s elected government.

The visit happened after tensions involving India, Pakistan, the Pahalgam terror attack, and Operation Sindoor.

India sees the visit as a possible message to Pakistan and China.

The United States had previously expressed concern about rights and political restrictions in the region, but it also described Kashmir-related changes as an internal matter of India.
