Mumbai to Install Push-Button Beepers for Visually Impaired
The city of Mumbai is making it easier for people who can't see well to cross the streets.
The city is putting in special buttons at traffic lights that make a sound.
When it's safe to cross, the button will make a clear noise.
As the light changes, the sound changes to let people know to be careful.
This idea was tried out in one place first, and since it worked well, they're adding it to more places.
These buttons are easy to find by touch, too.
This new system helps visually impaired people cross the street safely.
There are plans to install the system in high-traffic areas, like near hospitals.
BMC is installing push-button beepers at Mumbai traffic signals.
The initiative aims to aid visually impaired pedestrians.
A pilot program was successful at a Ghatkopar location.
Additional trials are set for Cuffe Parade and Wadala.
The system provides auditory cues for safe crossing.
