900g Baby Recovers After Rare Heart Surgery at AIIMS-Nagpur
Imagine a tiny baby, even smaller than a loaf of bread, was born very early.
This baby had a heart problem called PDA, where a blood vessel stayed open when it should have closed.
This made it hard for the baby to breathe.
Doctors at AIIMS-Nagpur performed a very rare surgery to fix the problem.
They closed the vessel, and the baby got better very quickly.
The baby was able to breathe on her own, gained weight, and is now back home growing up with her twin.
A premature baby girl, born at 26 weeks, underwent heart surgery at AIIMS-Nagpur.
The baby weighed only 900 grams at birth and was diagnosed with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA).
PDA is a condition where a blood vessel in the heart doesn't close after birth.
Surgery was performed to close the open vessel, which was the only option to save the baby's life.
The baby recovered, was taken off the ventilator, and has been discharged home.
