India's Financial Inclusion Progress Highlighted
India is making big progress in helping more people use banks and digital money.
A government official, M Nagaraju, talked about this at a special event in Hyderabad.
He said that schemes like PMJDY are helping many people, especially women and those in rural areas, to open bank accounts and manage their money better.
The country is also leading in digital payments, which helps small businesses and people who don't have regular bank accounts.
The official mentioned that the next steps include making sure people use their accounts more, getting better loans, and keeping everyone's money safe.
He also praised places like ASCI for helping to train leaders and shape good policies.
India's Financial Inclusion Index stood at 67.0 in March 2025, showing improvements in access, usage, and service quality.
Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has brought many people into the formal banking system, with a high share of women and rural account holders.
Direct benefit transfers have reduced leakages and improved transparency by linking identity, bank accounts, and digital platforms.
India leads in real-time digital payments through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), expanding financial participation among small businesses and informal sector workers.
Future priorities include improving account usage, expanding responsible credit, strengthening consumer protection, and enhancing coordination among financial regulators.
