India lacks uniform minimum wage

India does not have a single minimum wage that is the same everywhere.

Instead, there is a suggested amount called the National Floor Wage, which is ₹178 per day, but it is not mandatory.

Each state in India sets its own minimum wage, which can be different based on the area, the type of job, and the worker's skills.

For example, in Uttar Pradesh, an unskilled worker earns ₹11,021 per month, while in Delhi, an unskilled worker earns ₹18,456 per month.

Some people are worried that the suggested amount might not change often enough to keep up with the cost of living.

They also think that having a wage below the minimum could mean people are working for less than they need to live on.
