Skyroot Aerospace announces Rs 250 crore Tamil Nadu facility
An aerospace company called Skyroot Aerospace, which builds rockets in India, has decided to build a new facility in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The facility will be in a place called Thoothukudi and will cost Rs 250 crore, which is a lot of money.
It will be used to store, put together, and test rockets before they are launched.
The project is expected to create about 500 new jobs for people in the area.
Skyroot made history when its rocket Vikram-1 completed India's very first private orbital launch.
The new facility is being built near India's new spaceport at Kulasekarapattinam, which is expected to open in 2026-27.
The plan was signed at a big investors' event called the Vetri Conclave, attended by Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister.
Skyroot's leaders say the facility will help them launch more rockets in the future.
This shows that private companies are becoming a big part of space exploration in India.
Skyroot Aerospace will invest Rs 250 crore to set up its first Tamil Nadu facility in Thoothukudi, creating about 500 jobs.
The facility will handle storage, assembly, integration and testing of the company's launch vehicles.
The MoU with Guidance Tamil Nadu was signed at the Vetri Conclave in the presence of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.
The facility is close to ISRO's second spaceport at Kulasekarapattinam, targeted to become operational in 2026-27.
Skyroot's Vikram-1 completed India's first private orbital launch on July 18, according to the company.
