Panel Recommends Uniform Penalties for Forest Law Violations
Imagine a rulebook for protecting forests called the Van Adhiniyam.
Sometimes, people use forest land for other things without asking permission.
The people who check these things, called the Forest Advisory Committee (FAC), noticed that the fines for breaking this rule were not the same everywhere.
So, they suggested making the penalties fair and uniform.
This means if someone breaks the rule, they should pay a penalty that's consistent, no matter where it happened.
They also recommended that the penalty should include planting new trees on an area of forest land equal to the area that was used wrongly.
This is in addition to other fines already in place.
The idea is to make sure everyone follows the forest protection rules fairly.
The Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) has recommended uniform penalties for violations of the Van Adhiniyam, 1980.
Violations include unauthorized use of forest land for non-forestry activities without prior central government approval.
The FAC suggests penal compensatory afforestation should be charged on an equal extent of forest land involved in violations.
This recommendation aims to rationalize and standardize penalties, ensuring consistency and proportionality in enforcement.
The committee also recommended that detailed reports on violations, including responsible persons and actions taken, should be sent to the ministry.
