Actors Oppose Paramount-Warner Merger in UK
Some famous actors, like Benedict Cumberbatch, are worried about a big company deal between Paramount and Warner Bros.
Discovery.
They think this deal could hurt the UK's TV and movie industry, put many people's jobs at risk, and give too much control over news to one company.
They want the UK government to stop the deal to protect British culture and jobs.
The government is thinking about it and will decide soon.
Actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Alan Cumming, and Benedict Wong oppose the Paramount-Warner merger in the UK.
They argue the merger threatens UK's screen industry, livelihoods, and news diversity.
The actors urge Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy to block the merger.
Paramount has secured regulatory clearance in the EU but faces scrutiny in the UK.
The decision is expected in September 2024.
