Foreign Investors Sell ₹8,731 Crore in Indian Equities
Foreign Portfolio Investors are large investors from outside India.
During this week, they sold more Indian shares than they bought.
Their total selling from shares was worth ₹8,731.33 crore.
This ended two months in which they had mainly bought Indian equities.
Investors were worried about higher oil prices and tensions between the United States and Iran.
They were also watching rising interest rates and bond yields around the world.
Indian domestic institutions bought shares during every trading session of the week.
Analysts said India’s economy and company earnings remained helpful, but large foreign investments may be difficult if global yields continue rising.
Foreign Portfolio Investors withdrew ₹8,731.33 crore from Indian equities during the week ended September 4, 2026.
The weekly equity outflow reversed net buying of ₹20,200 crore in July and ₹29,631 crore in August.
FPIs recorded a combined ₹11,620.81 crore outflow across equities, debt, hybrid instruments, mutual funds and AIFs.
Hybrid instruments saw the largest segment outflow at ₹2,545.15 crore, while mutual funds received ₹99.47 crore.
Analysts cited rising global oil prices, US-Iran tensions and higher global bond yields as risks for future FPI flows.
