Jammu Court Questions Lack of FIR in Police Assault Case
A court in Jammu asked the police why they didn't file a case against a suspended police officer and his team for allegedly assaulting a government official during election duties.
The official, Azhar Khan, was inspecting transport routes for an upcoming election when he says the police officer started shouting, hitting, and abusing him.
Khan and his colleague were also allegedly insulted because of their caste and prevented from doing their job.
The court wants the police to explain why they didn't file a case, as the law says they should.
There's also video of the incident that went viral on social media.
Jammu court issued a notice to the SHO for not registering an FIR against DySP Sunil Singh Jasrotia and others for alleged assault on BDO Azhar Khan.
Khan accused the police officer of assault, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and caste-based abuses during election duties.
The incident occurred on November 10 when Khan was inspecting transport routes for the 77-Nagrota Assembly Constituency by-election.
Khan's colleague, Abbas Ali, was also allegedly assaulted, and both were prevented from performing their official duties.
The court's notice follows Khan's complaint that the police did not register an FIR despite his written complaints and compliance with legal requirements.
