Mutual Funds Surge: Assets Nearly Doubled in Eight Years
Imagine that people are putting more of their money into mutual funds instead of just keeping it in the bank.
This has been happening a lot lately!
Mutual funds are like baskets of investments, and they've become super popular.
This is partly because it's easier to invest with smartphones and online platforms.
Also, more people are investing regularly.
A lot of money has flowed into these funds, and the market has grown well after the pandemic.
However, not everyone is investing in mutual funds.
Although the amount of money invested has skyrocketed, only a relatively small number of people are actually investing.
Mutual fund assets as a percentage of bank deposits have nearly doubled in eight years.
As of May 2025, mutual fund AUM was Rs 72.2 trillion, almost a third of total bank deposits.
In March 2017, MF AUM was just 16% of bank deposits.
MF AUM has more than tripled since March 2020, outpacing the growth of bank deposits.
The mutual fund investor base stood at 54.2 million unique investors as of March 2025.
