BJP Accused of Electoral Manipulation Amid SIR Process
Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, said the BJP government is treating Booth Level Officers (BLOs) badly by giving them too much work.
He thinks this is part of a plan to change voter lists unfairly.
Some BLOs have even died because of this, and Akhilesh wants the government to pay their families.
The Supreme Court is also looking into this issue because some people think the way voter lists are being updated is not fair.
In West Bengal, the government has moved many police officers around, which some people think is because of the voter list updates and upcoming elections.
The Supreme Court is hearing arguments about whether the Election Commission can do this big update of voter lists all at once.
Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of subjecting BLOs to inhuman behavior with impractical SIR targets.
The Samajwadi Party demanded Rs 1 crore compensation for deceased BLOs' families and announced Rs 2 lakh assistance.
The Supreme Court is hearing challenges to the SIR process, questioning its validity and authority.
The West Bengal government ordered a sweeping police reshuffle amid the SIR process and rising pre-poll heat.
Senior advocates argued that the SIR process mirrors colonial-era voter lists based on exclusionary criteria.
