Iraq and Turkey Formalize Water Project Deal
Iraq and Turkey have made a new agreement about water.
Iraq doesn't have enough water, and the rivers that supply much of its water start in Turkey.
Under this deal, Turkish companies will help build things like dams to collect water and projects to make more land usable in Iraq.
The money for these projects will come from the money Iraq makes selling oil to Turkey.
This is a more detailed plan based on an agreement they made last year.
It's part of an effort to improve how the two countries work together.
Iraq and Turkey signed a deal on Sunday to formalize a water cooperation mechanism.
Turkish companies will carry out water infrastructure projects in Iraq.
The projects will be financed by revenue from Iraqi oil sales to Turkey.
The first phase includes three water-harvesting dams and three land reclamation projects.
This agreement aims to address Iraq's water scarcity and follows a broader accord signed in April 2024.
