Experimental non-hormonal endometriosis drug enters early safety testing

Experimental non-hormonal endometriosis drug enters early safety testing

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue grows outside the uterus and can cause pain, bleeding and fertility problems.

ENDO-205 is a new experimental drug being tested for this condition.

Unlike many current treatments, it is not designed to change reproductive hormones.

The drug is meant to become active in the unusual acidic environment around endometriosis lesions.

It may then damage the abnormal cells.

The first study will mainly check whether the drug is safe and what dose people can take.

It will not show yet whether the drug reduces pain or treats endometriosis.

Much larger studies will be needed to see whether it helps patients and affects fertility.

It is far too early to know whether it can replace hormone treatment or surgery.
