NGT Takes Suo Motu Cognisance of Darjeeling Environmental Degradation and Landslides
The big environmental court, called the NGT, is looking into problems in the Darjeeling hills.
Recently, heavy rain caused big landslides that damaged roads and bridges, and sadly, caused many deaths.
The court is worried because they heard that building things without care and changing weather patterns might be making these landslides worse.
Darjeeling is also a special place because it's near a very important border, so keeping it safe is important for national security.
The court has asked government groups and scientists to explain what's happening and why.
They want to make sure the area is protected and that rules for building things are being followed.
