India's New CCTV Rules Spark Industry Concerns, China's Spying Fears
India is making sure that the cameras used to watch everything are safe and secure.
They want to check how the cameras work and make sure no one can spy on you.
They're making companies that sell these cameras, like the ones from China, show how they work to make sure everything is safe.
This is because India is worried about things being safe from hackers and spies.
Companies are worried because it's a lot of work and could slow down the process.
India introduced new security rules for CCTV cameras requiring manufacturers to submit to government lab testing.
The policy applies to all internet-connected CCTV models made or imported since April 9.
Manufacturers like Hikvision, Xiaomi, and Hanwha face challenges meeting the new requirements.
The move is partially driven by India’s concern over China's surveillance capabilities and security risks.
Industry representatives warned of potential supply disruptions and millions of dollars in losses.
