YSRCP Says High Court Verdict Exposed TDP’s BC Quota Game

The Andhra Pradesh High Court cancelled government orders about reservations for BCs in local elections.

The orders had set aside 34% of seats in rural local bodies and 33.33% in urban local bodies.

The court also said local elections should begin within six weeks.

YSRCP leaders said the government had not properly supported the reservation percentage with data and law.

They argued that the total reservation for several groups normally cannot go above 50%.

The leaders accused the TDP government of using the issue for political reasons.

They also said the government should have explored a constitutional solution for higher reservations.

YSRCP demanded that BCs still receive at least 34% of political opportunities in the coming elections.
