Cybercrimes Cost Karnataka and Odisha Millions
Karnataka and Odisha, two states in India, have lost a lot of money to cybercrimes over the past few years.
Karnataka lost Rs 5,473.97 crore, and Odisha lost Rs 222.09 crore.
Both states have set up special police stations and launched awareness campaigns to educate people about cyber safety.
However, not much of the lost money has been recovered.
In Karnataka, the recovery rate dropped from 20.3% in 2023 to 6.2% in 2025.
In Odisha, only Rs 61.36 lakh has been returned to victims.
The governments are trying their best to raise awareness and take measures to prevent these crimes, but it's still a big challenge.
A lot of the money is lost to scams like forgery, stock trading, and 'digital arrest' scams, where people are tricked over many hours or even days.
Karnataka lost Rs 5,473.97 crore in cybercrimes over three years (2023-2025).
Odisha reported 3,486 cybercrime cases involving forgery of Rs 222.09 crore in the last 16 months.
Only 11.5% of the lost money has been recovered in Karnataka, while Odisha recovered Rs 61.36 lakh.
Both states have launched awareness campaigns and set up special police stations to combat cybercrimes.
The number of cases in Karnataka in 2025 (till November 15) has reduced by 42.2% compared to 2024.
