Jute Commissioner tightens stock limits amid price surge
The Jute Commissioner in India has reduced the amount of raw jute that traders and mills can store because the price of raw jute has gone up a lot.
Now, registered balers can only keep 1,200 quintals, other registered stockists can keep 150 quintals, and unregistered traders can only keep 5 quintals.
The Jute Commissioner has also asked everyone to sell any extra jute they have within 10 days.
The Jute Balers’ Association is not happy with this decision.
They say there is no shortage of raw jute and that the new rules might hurt farmers and small traders.
They want the government to look at the situation properly before making more changes.
The price of raw jute has softened a bit but remains high, and the market is still tense.
The government is also checking to make sure everyone follows the new rules.
Jute Commissioner reduces stockholding limits for raw jute amid price surge to Rs 13,500 per quintal.
Registered balers can hold a maximum of 1,200 quintals, other registered stockists 150 quintals, and unregistered traders 5 quintals.
Excess stock must be liquidated within 10 days, with enforcement agencies authorized to verify and seize violations.
Jute Balers’ Association expresses reservations, citing higher raw jute arrivals and potential impact on farmers and traders.
Raw jute prices have softened to around Rs 12,600 per quintal, but the market remains tense due to contradictory policy actions.
