Apple Refreshes Mac Mini and Mac Studio for Local AI
Apple is updating two of its desktop computers, the Mac Mini and Mac Studio.
The computers use new chips made with a 2-nanometre process.
Apple says these chips can run some AI programs directly on the computer.
This means information may not need to be sent to an internet cloud service.
It could also help users avoid paying a cloud provider for every AI request.
Apple says the Mac Mini could sit beside a laptop and work in the background.
More memory and faster memory connections help computers run larger AI models.
Apple says both Mac Mini versions offer up to four times the AI performance of their earlier versions.
Apple is refreshing its Mac Mini and Mac Studio lineups with new 2-nanometre chips.
The company says the chips improve performance for running AI workloads locally.
On-device processing can keep sensitive data from leaving the user’s environment and avoid per-token cloud costs.
Apple positions the Mac Mini as always-on desk-side computing that can support automated or agentic tasks.
The M6 Mac Mini supports up to 32GB of unified memory, while the M5 Pro Mac Mini supports up to 64GB and higher memory bandwidth.
