Mumbai BMC PPP Policy Sparks Clash Over Public Land

Mumbai BMC PPP Policy Sparks Clash Over Public Land

Mumbai’s city council held a heated meeting about how public land should be used.

Opposition members said a policy could let private developers use land meant for gardens, schools, playgrounds and markets.

They said this could cost the city money and reduce public access.

They also questioned why private partners were needed when the BMC has large fixed deposits.

Ruling alliance members disagreed and said the opposition’s claims were wrong.

A senior BMC official said the Andheri Sports Complex was leased after an open bidding process.

The official also said 650 former mill-worker families would receive homes in Worli.

The disagreement led to angry exchanges between the two sides.
