Tata Boardroom Dispute Raises Question Over Legal Bills

Tata Boardroom Dispute Raises Question Over Legal Bills

Tata Trusts and Tata Sons are arguing about whether N Chandrasekaran should continue as chairman.

Tata Sons’ board approved another five-year term for him on September 17.

Tata Trusts says the decision was not valid because its nominee directors did not give the required support.

The disagreement may lead to a major legal case.

Mehli Mistry has said that Tata Education and Development Trust should not pay for this dispute.

He says the trust is not a shareholder in Tata Sons.

It is not known from the reports whether the trust is currently paying any legal bills.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi is representing the Tata Trusts side, while Harish Salve is advising Chandrasekaran.

The bigger question is which Tata-related organization should pay if the legal fight becomes lengthy.
