New Foreigners Act Consolidates Entry and Exit Rules
India has updated its rules for foreigners with a new law.
This law combines older rules into one easy-to-understand set.
Now, everyone entering India must have a valid passport and visa, unless they are specially allowed to enter without these documents.
The law also says where people can enter and exit the country and creates an electronic system for tracking foreigners.
The rules also specify punishments, and exceptions for some groups such as Nepali and Bhutanese citizens, and Tibetan refugees.
This will help make the rules clearer and easier to enforce.
The Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, came into effect on September 1.
The Act consolidates pre-existing laws related to foreigners.
Foreigners must possess valid documents and enter via designated posts.
Digital records are created through electronic reporting.
The Act includes graduated fines for various infractions.
