Tata Sons Reappoints Chandrasekaran Amid Renewed Listing Pressure

Tata Sons is the company that oversees the Tata Group.

Its board decided that N Chandrasekaran should remain chairman for another five years.

He had earlier said he did not plan to seek another term.

The change happened after India’s central bank rejected Tata Sons’ request to give up its financial-company registration.

This decision may make a stock-market listing possible again.

Tata Sons had tried to avoid listing and had repaid more than Rs 21,000 crore in debt.

Directors said keeping the same leader could make investors feel more confident if an initial public offering happens.

Noel Tata disagreed with the reappointment, but most board members supported it.
