Supreme Court Overturns NGT's Rs 18 Crore Fine on Sugar Mill
The Supreme Court has overturned a fine issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) against a sugar company.
The NGT had fined the company for allegedly polluting the environment.
However, the Supreme Court found that the NGT didn't follow the correct legal procedures and didn't give the company a fair chance to defend itself.
The court stated that the NGT's actions were illegal and not fair.
The Supreme Court said that the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board can still inspect and address the pollution issue, but the fine imposed by the NGT was cancelled.
The Supreme Court set aside NGT orders imposing an Rs 18 crore fine on a company.
The court found the NGT violated procedure and principles of natural justice.
The case involved a sugar mill in Uttar Pradesh accused of environmental violations.
The NGT's decisions were declared illegal and null and void by the Supreme Court.
The UPPCB can still inspect and take remedial measures over the alleged violations.
