India's Ticket Inspector Navneet Kaur Scores in World Cup Draw
Navneet Kaur is a hockey player who plays for India.
She also has a job checking train tickets for Western Railway.
On August 16, 2026, she scored a goal in a big World Cup match against China.
The match ended in a 2-2 tie.
Many women hockey players in India have regular jobs like this because playing hockey does not pay them very much money.
Companies pay much more money to advertise with cricket players.
A new hockey league started this year, and teams paid players like Udita Duhan Rs 32 lakh to join.
The state of Haryana also gives cash awards to athletes.
The story shows that even very good hockey players need other jobs to feel financially safe.
India opened their FIH Women's World Cup campaign with a 2-2 draw against China at Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen on August 16, 2026.
Navneet Kaur scored in the eighth minute and Deepika Sehrawat in the 25th, while Zhang Ying and Ma Ning scored for China.
Navneet Kaur, a Chief Traveling Ticket Inspector with Western Railway, has 211 international caps and 70 goals for India.
Core hockey players earn roughly Rs 5-20 lakh a year from endorsements, far below cricketers like Smriti Mandhana, whose brand was valued at about $17.6 million.
The revived Hockey India League's standalone women's auction saw Udita Duhan become the most expensive Indian player at Rs 32 lakh.

Brands should invest in hockey players, who represent grit and discipline, instead of treating hockey sponsorship as a CSR box to tick.
Brands and marketing agencies
Brands want a single recognizable face for billboards; hockey's team-sport anonymity and 70-80% post-tournament engagement decay make players hard to market.
