Purulia Leprosy Home Celebrates Durga Puja, Breaking Stigma
Imagine a home where old people who once had leprosy live.
For many years, they couldn't join the big Durga Puja festival because people were scared.
This year, some kind people helped them have their own Puja celebration right at their home!
They got new clothes, and everyone was very happy.
This celebration is special because it shows that even though a person is cured of leprosy, the fear of other people can still be a problem.
This event celebrates that everyone deserves to be part of the community and be treated with dignity, no matter their past.
Oboseshe, an old-age home, is celebrating Durga Puja for the first time.
The celebration is funded by the Birati Globe Vision Society (BGVS).
Residents were previously excluded from festivities due to leprosy stigma.
