Researchers Launch OnlyFans Page To Fund Marmot Study
Some scientists study marmots, which are chubby squirrels that live in the ground.
The scientists work at a lab connected to UCLA, and their leader is Professor Daniel Blumstein.
The government recently cut money for universities, so the researchers did not have enough funds.
To fix this, they made a page on a website called OnlyFans.
Usually OnlyFans is used for grown-up content, but this page only shows cute videos of marmots.
The page is called "OnlyMarms," and watching the videos is free.
People who watch can leave tips, and so far more than $5,000 has been raised.
The videos show wild marmots in the Colorado mountains doing things like chasing each other around.
The money helps pay for field equipment, data collection, and student researchers.
This marmot study has been running since 1962, making it one of the longest animal studies ever.
UCLA-affiliated researchers launched an OnlyFans page called "OnlyMarms" to fund their marmot study after federal budget cuts to universities.
The account, created at the end of May, features several dozen family-friendly videos of yellow-bellied marmots filmed in the Colorado mountains.
According to the BBC, the content has so far generated more than $5,000 on the platform.
The subscription is free, with viewers encouraged to leave tips and donations that support field equipment, data collection, and student researchers.
The 64-year project, running continuously since 1962, is the second-longest study of individually marked mammals in history after Jane Goodall's chimpanzee research.
