Houthi Drone Near Mecca Tests Saudi-Pakistan Defense Pact

Saudi Arabia says it stopped a drone near Mecca before it reached the city’s protected airspace.

Saudi officials said the drone came from the Houthis, an armed group based in Yemen.

The Houthis said they did not target Mecca and denied Saudi Arabia’s accusation.

Mecca is important because it contains Islam’s holiest sites.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye recently signed a defense agreement.

The agreement says an attack on one country should be treated as an attack on all three.

However, it does not clearly require the other countries to immediately send soldiers.

Pakistan condemned the incident but said no military response was being discussed at that time.

Reports also said Saudi Arabia was exploring intelligence and security help from Israel and Britain, although those arrangements were not confirmed.
