India Extends Deadline for Satellite Internet Security Compliance
Imagine companies that want to provide internet from space, like using satellites.
The Indian government gave these companies a temporary license to test their services, but they also have to follow strict rules for security.
Because meeting these security standards takes time, the government is giving them more time, extending their testing period.
This will allow the companies to ensure their services are safe before offering internet from satellites to everyone in India.
India extended the deadline for satellite internet firms OneWeb and Jio Satellite to comply with security requirements.
The extension allows them six more months to meet security compliance, until November.
The provisional spectrum was initially provided for testing and security compliance, not commercial services.
Companies are still working to fully meet the stringent security standards mandated by the government.
The government is finalizing spectrum pricing and other conditions for commercial rollout.
