Student Protests Reflect Shared Struggle Beyond Ranchi Versus Jantar Mantar
Young people in India spend many years studying to get government jobs through exams.
These tests sometimes seem unfair because question papers leak or results get changed.
In the city of Ranchi, students protested by not eating.
One young man did not eat for nine whole days.
Earlier, students in Delhi protested at a place called Jantar Mantar.
They were angry because a big medical exam called NEET had a leaked question paper.
Because of that protest, a top minister had to leave his job.
Some people say these protests are just fights between political parties.
But the protesters say they just want fair exams, honest results, and leaders who keep their promises.
A young man in Ranchi has been on a nine-day hunger strike, part of protests demanding accountability over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams.
The 14th JPSC preliminary results reportedly showed anomalies, including alleged seat sales running into lakhs of rupees, manipulated answer sheets, and private agencies under a cloud.
Authorities have made CID arrests, detained former JPSC chairperson L Khiangte, launched an ED money-laundering probe, and offered to cancel certain examinations.
Weeks earlier, students protesting the NEET paper leak at Delhi's Jantar Mantar forced union minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation.
The article argues the protests should not be seen as a partisan Ranchi versus Jantar Mantar rivalry, noting solidarity from the BJP, Congress, and the Cockroach Janta Party.

Protests as Genuine Grievances
Protests as Partisan Political Tools
Ranchi versus Jantar Mantar framing
Protests as Genuine Grievances
Both protests stem from genuine, accumulated betrayal over exam irregularities; framing one as pure and the other as contaminated insults the protesters.
Protests as Partisan Political Tools
The earlier Jantar Mantar movement was authentic while the Ranchi protest is politically driven, especially since parties like the BJP have offered solidarity and called a bandh.
Scope of accountability
Protests as Genuine Grievances
Accountability must be universal and consistent, applied every time and everywhere, and should not expire when a government changes colour.
Protests as Partisan Political Tools
Governments can address grievances with temporary probes, offers to cancel exams, and carefully worded assurances, satisfying the demand once a political rival is embarrassed.
Role of political parties
Protests as Genuine Grievances
Support from parties, such as BJP solidarity, Congress food packets, and Cockroach Janta Party backing, does not define or own the anger; the protest grew organically from lived betrayal.
Protests as Partisan Political Tools
Parties recognise the electoral value of youth anger, and their active involvement shows the protest is organised and politically motivated.
