Ladakh Road Construction Improves Connectivity, Boosts Tourism
Imagine a place called Ladakh that became its own special area in 2019.
Since then, the government has been building and fixing roads there, like adding over 1,670 kilometers of new roads!
This was done using money from different government programs.
Because it's easier to travel around, more tourists are visiting Ladakh.
Before, there were around 280,000 visitors, but now there are over 500,000!
The new roads help people get around more quickly and safely, and they also let tourists explore more places, even in the winter.
Over 1,670 km of roads were built or blacktopped in Ladakh since it became a Union Territory in 2019.
The information was revealed by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, in the Lok Sabha.
Road construction was funded by various central government schemes and UT-administered schemes.
Improved road connectivity has significantly boosted the tourism sector in Ladakh.
Tourist arrivals in Ladakh rose from approximately 279,937 in 2019 to over 500,000 in 2022 and 2023.
