Maharashtra Cabinet Approves TReDS To Ease MSME Contractor Payments

Maharashtra’s government approved a system called TReDS to help small contractors get money sooner.

Contractors often have to wait for the government to pay their bills.

Through TReDS, they can receive financing while waiting for those payments.

The government will later repay the financial institution.

If repayment takes more than 180 days after the financing is arranged, the government must pay interest.

A committee will decide how much that interest should be.

Contractors protested in Mumbai because they said large amounts of money were overdue.

MLA Rohit Pawar supported them and called for the pending bills to be cleared.
