Supreme Court Seeks Responses on Pension Benefits for Private Teachers

Supreme Court Seeks Responses on Pension Benefits for Private Teachers
SC query on private teacher pension: Centre, states asked to respond to PIL · telegraphindia.com

A petition has asked the Supreme Court to provide pension and other social benefits for private schoolteachers.

The petition says millions of teachers in recognised private schools do not have a strong, uniform welfare system.

It argues that teachers do important work for the country.

It also says they help fulfil children’s constitutional right to education.

The court has not made a final decision yet.

Instead, it asked several governments and education-related organisations to respond.

The case was filed by Ligimol George of the All India Teachers Federation.

The court will hear the matter again after four weeks.
