Megacities Face Growing Flood Risks
Big cities are growing fast, especially in places like India and Nigeria.
The United Nations says that by 2050, most new people will live in cities, not the countryside.
But these big cities are also at risk of really bad floods.
This is because many of them are in areas that get a lot of rain during monsoon seasons.
So, while cities are getting bigger, they also need to be careful about flooding.
Megacities are at increasing risk of disastrous floods.
Two-thirds of global population growth between now and 2050 will occur in cities.
About half a billion new urbanites will be added in seven countries, mostly in the Asian and African monsoon belts.
The rural population of about 1.5 billion will decline starting in the 2040s.
Expanding megacities need to prepare for higher flood risks due to population growth and monsoon patterns.
