Kolkata Police Enhance Security for Durga Idol Jewelry
During Durga Puja in Kolkata, police are stepping up security to protect the valuable jewelry adorning the Durga idols.
Officers with rifles are stationed at 11 of 13 pandals, while more security is present in the other two.
The police will guard the gold and silver ornaments.
CCTV cameras are also being used.
Puja organizers usually protect the jewelry, but the police are boosting security due to the high value of the ornaments and large crowds.
The jewelry is only worn when the idol is present and is kept in the puja committee's custody otherwise.
Kolkata Police have implemented special security measures to safeguard Durga idol jewelry during Durga Puja.
Two policemen with rifles are deployed at 11 puja mandaps, with tighter security at two others.
The police will specifically guard gold and silver ornaments.
CCTV cameras have also been installed for enhanced security.
The measure is in response to the risk of theft due to the value of the jewelry and large crowds.
