India's Thorium Energy Dream: Decades of Research, No Commercial Reactors
India once had a big plan to use thorium, a special mineral, to make clean energy.
A long time ago, a smart scientist named Homi Bhabha thought this could make India very powerful in energy.
India has lots of thorium, and scientists did many tests to show it could work.
They even made a small reactor that ran on thorium.
But even after many years, India hasn't built a big thorium power plant.
Meanwhile, a company in America just made a new thorium fuel that could work in India's reactors.
Some people think India didn't build thorium plants because it became easier to get uranium from other countries.
So even though India did lots of good science, the final step happened somewhere else.
