US Ambassador Sergio Gor Arrives in New Delhi with Rocking Entrance
Sergio Gor, the new US Ambassador to India, arrived in New Delhi with a big, rock-themed welcome.
Instead of a quiet start, he had loud music playing, like songs from Metallica and the Village People, and told staff to act excited, like Elvis had just walked in.
This was different from how other ambassadors have started their jobs.
Some of the music he chose was controversial because it was used in political campaigns without permission.
Gor is a big supporter of President Trump and wants to strengthen the relationship between the US and India.
He even invited India to join a US project to secure important technology supplies.
There are some tough issues to work out, like high taxes on Indian goods and disagreements over trade with Russia.
Gor also presented his credentials to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Sergio Gor, the new US Ambassador to India, arrived in New Delhi with a rock-themed reception, breaking diplomatic convention.
Staff were instructed to act excited, like Elvis had just walked in, and a curated playlist featuring songs like 'Hold On, I’m Comin’’ and 'YMCA' was played.
The event was designed to mirror Trump-style political staging, with a focus on optics and creating memorable footage.
The use of 'Hold On, I’m Comin’’ was controversial due to a copyright lawsuit against the Trump campaign for using the song without permission.
Gor invited India to join the 'Pax Silica' initiative, a US-led effort to secure global silicon and AI supply chains, and hinted at a potential visit by President Trump.
