Court Orders Jail to Provide Jain Food to Money Laundering Accused
A court in Mumbai told the Arthur Road jail to give a man named Ritesh Shah, who is accused of money laundering, the special Jain food he needs.
The court had previously said he should get this food, but Shah said he wasn't.
He explained that instead of the food he needed, he was given only dal and chapati, or sabzi and chapati, which wasn't in accordance with his dietary needs.
The court agreed that the jail wasn't following the rules, so the jail has been instructed to correct the matter and follow the earlier court order to ensure the prisoner receives appropriate Jain food.
A special PMLA court directed Arthur Road jail to provide Jain food to Ritesh Shah.
Shah, an accused in a money laundering case, claimed he wasn't receiving Jain food as per court orders.
The court previously ordered the jail to provide Jain food on May 14.
Shah stated he was given only dal and chapati or sabzi and chapati instead of the required Jain food.
The court's directive followed Shah's complaints that the jail was not complying with the original order.
