JNUSU tears down 'regressive' hostel rules
The JNUSU tore down a notice in Narmada Hostel that had rules about who can visit and stay in the hostels.
The rules said that non-resident visitors can't stay after 10:30 p.m.
and that only men can stay in men's hostels and only women in women's hostels.
The JNUSU said these rules are unfair and control students' lives too much.
The hostel and university administrations said they didn't know about the notice or any complaints.
JNUSU tore down a notice with 'regressive' rules regarding visitor access and gender-based segregation in Narmada Hostel.
The notice restricted non-resident visitors from staying after 10:30 p.m. and segregated guests based on gender.
JNUSU objected to the rules, calling them moral policing and an attempt to control students' personal lives.
The hostel administration denied the existence of the notice, and the university administration said they received no formal complaint.
JNUSU president Aditi Mishra said the notice was part of a longer pattern of patriarchal rules imposed by hostels with right-wing wardens.
