Stilwell Road Revival Faces Trade Promise and Security Concerns

Stilwell Road Revival Faces Trade Promise and Security Concerns

The Stilwell Road is an old highway linking India, Myanmar, and China.

It was built during World War II to send supplies to China after Japan blocked another route.

Thousands of soldiers and local workers built it through difficult jungles.

Much of the road was later neglected.

India and China have usable sections, but a large part in Myanmar is in poor condition.

Reopening the whole road could help businesses move goods much faster.

However, fighting in Myanmar makes construction difficult.

India also worries about security and a flood of inexpensive Chinese products.
