Nashik Dog Bites Surge 64% as Rabies Deaths Increase

Nashik is seeing many more dog bites than it did three years earlier.

There were 43,039 dog-bite cases in 2025-26.

This was about 64% higher than in 2023-24.

Rabies, a serious illness, also caused more cases and deaths.

By June 2026, four rabies cases and three deaths had been reported in the new reporting year.

Health officials said people should wash animal-bite wounds with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes.

They should then go to a hospital quickly for treatment and vaccines when needed.

People with snakebites should stay calm and reach a hospital without cutting or squeezing the wound.
