Congo Ruling Party Leader Killed After Ebola Awareness Radio Programme

Marie-Celestin Karondwa spoke on the radio about how people could prevent Ebola.

Afterward, residents in his neighborhood attacked him in Butembo.

The UDPS said they beat him, stole his belongings and burned his house.

Karondwa later died from his injuries.

The people who attacked him have not been identified.

The party said he was attacked because he supported the view that Ebola exists and threatens people.

Other Ebola response workers have also faced attacks.

Government figures said the outbreak had infected 8,067 people and killed 3,901 by Monday.
