Bengaluru Court Jails Power TV MD
A court in Bengaluru, India, has sentenced the Managing Director of Power TV, Rakesh Shetty, to three months in jail.
This is because Power TV kept showing programs that said bad things about a former police officer named B R Ravikanthe Gowda, even after the court told them to stop.
The court said that Power TV knew about the order but still showed programs on September 22 and 23, 2023, that made the police officer look bad.
The judge said that even if the order was temporary, it had to be followed.
The next hearing is set for January 31, 2026, to talk about some money that needs to be paid.
Power TV MD Rakesh Shetty sentenced to 3 months in civil prison for violating an interim injunction.
The injunction restrained Power TV from broadcasting defamatory content against former IPS officer B R Ravikanthe Gowda.
The court found that Power TV continued to air programs portraying Gowda negatively on September 22 and 23, 2023.
Senior Civil Judge Abdul Saleem rejected the defense's arguments and upheld the contempt proceedings.
The matter has been posted to January 31, 2026, for the deposit of subsistence allowance.
