Mary Lambert Casts Jonathan Bailey as Dracula in Audible Adaptation
Mary Lambert directed a new audio version of Dracula for Audible.
The story is based on Bram Stoker’s famous novel from 1897.
Jonathan Bailey plays Dracula, and Ella Purnell plays Mina Murray.
Because it is an audio drama, listeners hear the story instead of watching it.
Lambert says this lets people picture the frightening castle and other scenes in their own minds.
She also says Bailey’s charm and personality make him a good fit for Dracula.
Lambert wanted Mina to have more say in the story than some earlier versions allowed.
She said women have gained more opportunities to shape horror stories.
Director Mary Lambert adapted Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula as an Audible Original audio drama.
Jonathan Bailey voices Dracula, while Ella Purnell voices Mina Murray.
Lambert said Bailey’s charm and personality contribute to his portrayal of the vampire.
She said audio storytelling lets listeners imagine scenes for themselves, without visuals distracting them.
Lambert said the adaptation gives Mina more agency than the “hapless victim” role often used in earlier versions.
